Engage Global Health (EGH) works in Uganda through strategic partnerships that strengthen maternal and child health services while supporting youth skills development and economic empowerment. Through collaboration with local organizations, EGH supports community-led initiatives that improve health outcomes and create sustainable opportunities for vulnerable populations.
EGH partners with Amani Family Centre, a community-based maternity and child health facility located in the Kanyogoga slum community and led by midwife Diane Lockhart. The Centre has delivered more than 1,800 babies and provides high-quality, evidence-based care to vulnerable mothers, infants, and families who often face barriers to accessing formal healthcare services.
In addition to clinical care, the Centre operates a food bank and a safe house for women in crisis, supporting women facing domestic violence, homelessness, or severe economic hardship.
EGH provides strategic advisory support to strengthen service delivery and operational sustainability. Through this collaboration, EGH has facilitated the engagement of a medical officer, expanding access to primary care services for mothers, infants, and families in the surrounding community.
EGH also collaborates with Mirembe Community College (MCC), a vocational institute located in Busiika, in central Uganda along the Luwero–Zirobwe corridor. MCC serves youth from rural and economically vulnerable communities and has trained more than 2,030 young people in practical skills that support employment and entrepreneurship.
MCC combines vocational training with psycho-social support, recognizing that many students face social and economic challenges affecting their education and employment opportunities.
MCC has a health centre that provides supports to students and neighbouring communities.
EGH supports MCC through strategic advisory guidance, leadership mentorship, and organizational capacity strengthening.
