Engage Global Health (EGH) works across Canada in partnership with First Nations communities, immigrant-serving organizations, and community agencies to strengthen health initiatives, build capacity, and improve equitable access to care.
Our work in Canada focuses on advisory support, strategic planning, grant development, and culturally responsive health programming.
EGH has worked with Montana First Nation (past engagement), providing advisory support and strategic planning for health programs and initiatives. Our work included grant writing, stakeholder engagement, and strengthening connections with key health system partners such as:
Engage Global Health (EGH) collaborated with Montana First Nation to support the establishment of Akamihk Health Services, a community-based primary care organization delivering integrated health services including primary care, mental health services, home care, addiction services, and traditional health services.
EGH provided strategic and operational advisory support throughout the development process. This included assistance with regulatory and licensing applications, guidance on sourcing essential medical and operational resources, and support in designing a primary care model aligned with Alberta’s healthcare system.
The initiative strengthens access to culturally grounded, community-led healthcare services for Montana First Nation members while supporting long-term sustainability and capacity building within the community.
We also trained case workers, managers, and directors using a population health approach, strengthening their capacity to support clients holistically.
Engage Global Health (EGH) partnered with Tallcree First Nation to support the development of a community-led health innovation initiative through Alberta’s Indigenous Primary Health Care Innovation Fund, a provincial program designed to strengthen Indigenous-led primary health care services. Tallcree First Nation was selected as one of the successful recipients of this program. The funded initiative represents a first-of-its-kind health innovation project in the community, and the program is scheduled to launch in April 2026.
The initiative is designed to improve access to culturally responsive primary care services and strengthen coordination across community health programs. It focuses on aligning healthcare delivery with the Nation’s health priorities, cultural values, and long-term community wellness goals.
EGH works closely with Tallcree First Nation leadership, health program managers, and frontline teams through on-site engagement to identify community health needs, service gaps, and opportunities to strengthen the delivery of care. This includes consultations with program heads and community stakeholders to better understand the challenges affecting health outcomes within the Nation.
As part of this collaboration, EGH provides strategic advisory leadership, grant development and proposal writing, program design support, implementation planning, and health systems guidance. EGH also supports the development, writing, and review of the Nation’s health policies, helping ensure that policies align with best practices while reflecting the cultural values and priorities of the community.
In addition, EGH advises on resources, program development, and partnerships that strengthen the community’s health infrastructure and support sustainable service delivery.
Engage Global Health (EGH) partners with Compassion Wellness Medical Centre, a Family Practice in the Chappelle area of Edmonton, to advance public health priorities including women’s health, mental health, and community-based health education.
Dr. Setorme collaborates with EGH on selected health literacy sessions, supporting prevention-focused and culturally responsive community engagement.
Compassion Wellness Medical Centre provides comprehensive, patient-centered care across all ages, operating under a team-based Patient’s Medical Home model in collaboration with the Edmonton Southside Primary Care Network (ESPCN), with access to allied health professionals.
The clinic offers preventive, acute, and chronic care, virtual services, and select uninsured services, including employment medicals and non-invasive aesthetic treatments.
Engage Global Health (EGH) works closely with the Alberta Immigrant Women and Children Centre (AIWCC) to strengthen health equity and improve access to health knowledge for refugee and immigrant families.
EGH supports AIWCC through grant writing and funding development, including successful funding applications for health literacy and autism-related initiatives. The collaboration also includes the delivery of culturally responsive health literacy programs designed to ensure that health information is clearly understood by clients from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Education sessions are delivered using both didactic and interactive approaches, often supported by trained translators to ensure accurate communication and meaningful engagement with participants. EGH also develops culturally appropriate take-home materials to reinforce learning and support families in applying health knowledge in their daily lives.
Through stakeholder engagement, EGH has facilitated partnerships with organizations such as Autism Edmonton, helping families access specialized education, resources, and support services. EGH is also currently supporting the development of a new mental health grant aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of mental health among clients, families, and communities.
Through its health literacy curriculum, EGH delivers education on a broad range of health topics—from “head to toe”—while promoting preventive care practices such as flu vaccination awareness, vitamin D supplementation, physical activity, and overall wellness.
Engage Global Health (EGH) partnered with Action for Healthy Communities in Edmonton to deliver capacity-building training aimed at strengthening health literacy among frontline case managers supporting refugees and migrants.
Through a series of practical training modules, EGH equipped case managers with tools and knowledge to better understand common health challenges faced by newcomer families and to support clients in navigating the healthcare system. The sessions covered key topics including mental health, health system navigation, and community-based health resources.
A major focus of the training was mental health, particularly given the complex needs of refugees arriving from conflict-affected regions. Case managers reported that many clients were experiencing severe mental health challenges, including trauma and suicidal ideation. The training helped staff recognize warning signs, provide informed support, and connect clients with appropriate mental health services and referrals.
This initiative strengthened the organization’s ability to respond to the health needs of vulnerable newcomer communities while improving early identification of critical health and social challenges affecting refugee families.
Engage Global Health (EGH) collaborated with the Africa Centre in Edmonton to deliver a series of community-based health literacy workshops aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of key health issues affecting African and newcomer communities.
The workshops covered a range of important health topics including chronic diseases, preventive screenings, mental health, women’s health, and men’s health. Sessions were designed to provide practical, culturally relevant information that could help individuals make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
EGH delivered these sessions both for community members accessing services at the Africa Centre and for frontline case workers supporting clients. By strengthening health literacy among both groups, the initiative helped improve awareness of preventive care, early detection of health conditions, and better navigation of available health services within the healthcare system.
This collaboration contributed to building stronger community capacity to address health challenges while promoting preventive health practices and culturally responsive care.
Engage Global Health (EGH) collaborates with Black Canadian Women in Action to strengthen organizational capacity and support initiatives that advance the health and wellbeing of Black women and their communities.
EGH provides advisory and mentorship support to organizational leadership, helping guide program development, strategic planning, and community-focused initiatives. This collaboration also includes grant writing and funding development support to help the organization secure resources needed to expand its programs and impact.
Through capacity-building efforts, EGH supports the organization in strengthening its operational and programmatic capabilities, enabling it to better serve Black women and families while advancing community-led health and social initiatives.
This partnership reflects EGH’s commitment to working alongside community organizations to promote health equity, leadership development, and sustainable community impact.
Across Canada, EGH strengthens organizations through leadership mentorship, strategic planning, grant development, and culturally responsive health programming.
