CEO and President
Dr. Jennifer Njenga stands as a trailblazing figure in the realm of healthcare entrepreneurship in Alberta. A Primary Care and Public Health Physician with over 20 years of clinical and non-clinical experience, from several countries including Uganda, South Africa, Namibia, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. As the CEO and Founder of Engage Global Health (EGH) she has expertise in working with multiple internal and external stakeholders in Primary and Secondary Care, Non-Government and Government organisations. She has a special interest working with marginalized populations, including women and children, refugees and newcomers, and indigenous population groups. Dr Njenga is a believer in equitable outcomes and quality healthcare using a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates the social determinants of health. A lead clinician of the development, implementation, and evaluation of various initiatives within healthcare. An MD from South Africa, a Master of Public Health from New Zealand, and a Doctor of Public Health from Australia and a Certificate of Global Health Leadership Program from Harvard University in the United States.
Vice President and Director of Primary Healthcare
Meet Dr. Michael Njenga, our Director, who is a Family physician with over 20 years of extensive work experience in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Namibia and South Africa. He is passionate about Men’s Health, Mental Health, Health of Older People, Chronic Disease and Refugee and Migrant Health. Dr Njenga has held various leadership positions in healthcare and served on various Boards and Advisory Committees of healthcare organizations. Living and working in several countries has awarded him a wealth of knowledge and experience that he brings to the team.
Program Manager
Olakunle leads the management of programs and services across Engage Global Health, helping clients design, implement, manage and monitor public health solutions. Prior to joining Engage Global Health, Olakunle worked with the CIHP programs team managing and implementing public health projects in sectors such as Infectious diseases (HIV) Cervical cancer, routine immunization, Grant writing, Research and overall Health system strengthening across 6 states in Sub Saharan Africa Nigeria. Olakunle graduated from the University of Lagos Nigeria with a degree in Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.S), and is looking to further explore Public health and preventive medicine training in Canada.
Director, Administration and Operations - Canada
Hilda Stella Madaba is the Operations Manager at Engage Global Health, where she oversees daily operations, monitors performance, and ensures collaboration across all departments. Her leadership is key to maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization’s mission-driven work. Before joining Engage Global Health, Hilda built a strong foundation in social work and administration. She served at the Ministry of Defense in Uganda, where she provided psychosocial support for veterans and their families. Additionally, she worked with Mama’s Club Uganda, a non-governmental organization that supports people living with or affected by HIV, as a program assistant and counselor. Hilda holds professional registrations with both the Uganda and New Zealand Social Workers Registration Boards. She earned a Bachelor's Degree (Honors) in Social Work and Social Administration and holds a certification in HIV/AIDS counseling. Her dedication to service, community engagement, and operational excellence is a hallmark of her career.
Director of Nursing and Medical Education
Ebian Ali is a dedicated registered nurse with over a decade of experience in acute care and public health. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from the University of Ottawa in 2012 and furthered her education by earning a Master's degree in Advanced Health Care Practice from the University of Western Ontario in 2023. Currently, Ebian serves as a nurse consultant and educator at Engage Global Health, where she channels her passion for public health into empowering underserved communities. She develops health literacy materials that are both accessible and culturally sensitive, ensuring that vital health information reaches those who need it most. Ebian is committed to collaboration, working closely with local organizations to deliver services that help individuals take control of their health journeys. Her approach is rooted in a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by these communities, making her an invaluable advocate for health equity and education.
Director, Communicable Disease and Non-communicable Disease
Dr Karimba is a public health professional with expertise in Clinical epidemiology, trained at the University of Pretoria. Her work spans infectious disease surveillance, infection prevention and control (IPC), clinical research, and program evaluation. She has contributed to shaping healthcare policies, strengthening disease control programs, and enhancing hospital management systems. Through capacity-building initiatives, she has empowered healthcare professionals with the skills to tackle complex health challenges. Her commitment to evidence-based solutions and innovation drives her efforts to improve global health outcomes. She has been involved in addressing the public health threat of antimicrobial resistance burden among neonates and children by securing sustainable access of new/ improved antibiotics in Low- and Middle- Income Countries (LMIC), mainly on the African continent. More recently, Dr Karimba provided technical support to the African Union member states in identifying strengths and gaps in Non communicable Diseases data collection and reporting processes to ensure accuracy and reliability of data from NTD programs at National level. She also developed articles on NTDs for scientific review and publication consideration. She possesses strong skills and experience in the management of health emergencies and rapid response to disease outbreaks. She has participated in several consultancies with the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a member of the surge team for the rapid response and epidemiological surveillance to the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa and in Mauritius.
Director, Clinical Research
Dr. Azevedo Fernandes is a dedicated Health Equity Advocate with a strong background in Primary Care, Public Health, and Cancer Research. With over a decade of experience across multiple continents, Dr. Fernandes' medical journey includes time spent in China, Mozambique, and now Canada. This global exposure has provided a unique and comprehensive understanding of healthcare systems, health disparities, and the social determinants of health. Dr. Fernandes is also the founder and former chair of Medtool Solution Group, a startup based in China with offices in Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Through Medtool, he played a pivotal role in providing and exporting both new and used medical equipment to Africa, contributing to improving healthcare infrastructure across the continent. In 2017, alongside his wife, Dr. Fernandes built Clinica da Familia Mz, a 48.000 square foot, 30-bed hospital in Mozambique. This hospital was designed to provide essential healthcare services to underserved populations in the region, reflecting Dr. Fernandes' commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare in low-resource settings. Having worked as a Family Physician and General Surgeon at Clinica da Familia Mz, Dr. Fernandes has provided essential care and surgical interventions to underserved populations. His passion for health equity and evidence-based interventions led him to focus on public health, cancer research, and innovations in primary care.
Director, Health Systems Strengthening
Elizabeth Mebrahtu is a health consultant, systems strategist, and research professional specializing in health systems strengthening through enhancing equitable accessibility, service delivery, and policies internationally. With extensive experience across international consulting, policy advisory, and implementation research, she brings a unique expertise in bridging evidence-based strategies with real-world health solutions. Her work spans global health initiatives, collaborating with government agencies, NGOs, and private sector stakeholders to evaluate and design human-centered initiatives that improve equitable access to healthcare, and ultimately optimizing health system performance and population outcomes.
Director, Grants and Project Management
Barbara has over two decades of experience in philanthropy, public health, and civil society leadership, evaluation, workshop facilitation, technical operations, and strategic planning. In her role as the Chief Steward at CivSource South Africa, Barbara leads strategic growth efforts, fosters multi-sector partnerships, and oversees organizational expansion across the region. A key component of her role involves strengthening leadership development and fiscal hosting. Barbara’s previous experience as National Coordinator for the South African Clinical Research Association (2009 – 2022) provided her with hands-on expertise in clinical research coordination, compliance oversight, and operational management. This role enhanced her ability to streamline evaluation processes, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and ensured programmatic effectiveness. Before this, Barbara worked for ActionAid South Africa gaining experience of regional programmatic work when she supported ActionAid in Lesotho and Swaziland in building capacity for the National AIDS Councils in those countries. Additionally, her volunteer work as a Program Advisor at Universal Health Development Fund and as a Consultant for UNAIDS JLICA & ESARO reinforced her ability to conduct research, design health-focused interventions, and deliver impactful capacity-building initiatives. These experiences equipped her with a deep understanding of public health challenges, institutional learning frameworks, and evidence-based program evaluation. Barbara holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health (University of Pretoria, 2024, Expected), a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Management (Monash University, 2022), and a Bachelor of Education (Honors) from Makerere University. These academic credentials, combined with her professional experience, have enabled her to champion adaptive leadership, foster cross-sector collaboration, and drive meaningful social impact in health and education sectors.
Director, Administration and Operations - Africa Region
Nombulelo Mungherera is a meticulous office manager with over 20 years of expertise in managing and optimizing operational effectiveness. With a strong background as an Administrative Executive across various industries, she has provided comprehensive office and administration management in demanding roles across large corporations, medium-sized enterprises, and small businesses. Dedicated and highly skilled, Nombulelo excels at identifying administrative needs, streamlining workflows, and collaborating with teams to drive efficiency. Her strong interpersonal skills and clear communication make her an asset in any professional setting, ensuring smooth operations and effective problem-solving. With extensive experience in people management and staff development, she has led numerous recruitment and training initiatives, shaping the workforce and fostering professional growth.
